Stockholm Slashes Transit Fares, Boosting Access to Central Parks This Summer

The adult 30-day SL public transport pass in Stockholm has been cut to 530 SEK from 1,060 SEK, effective from 1 July 2026 through 31 December 2026. This change directly affects daily movement around central areas including Kungstradgarden.

Why the timing matters for residents

The reduction stems from a 6.5 billion SEK national government subsidy designed to lower living costs and boost public transit use. With the subsidized rate running through the end of the year, locals now have a six-month window to adjust routines around parks and waterfront routes without higher fares.

Reaching Kungstradgarden and Djurgården destinations

Kungstradgarden sits at the heart of the city, serving as a starting point for walks that connect to Djurgården island. The Vasa Museum on Djurgården holds the preserved 17th-century warship with over 98 percent of its original wood intact after sinking in 1628. The same pass covers travel to this site, which draws over one million visitors annually and maintains stable 18°C conditions for the ship and its 40,000 artifacts.

Evidence from the current fare structure

The 50 percent cut applies to both 30-day tickets and monthly subscriptions for Stockholm SL services. Student, youth, and pensioner fares have also halved from 650 SEK to 325 SEK during the same period. Last purchase date for a pass valid until year-end is 2 December 2026, giving residents a clear window to plan repeated visits.

Residents can load the reduced pass onto existing SL cards or apps and use it across buses, metro, and ferries serving central Stockholm and Djurgården. This supports regular access to Kungstradgarden paths and onward travel without repeated single-ticket costs.
