Residents turn to city-managed sites along the water for structured training sessions amid the July heat.

Stockholm city pools opened their 2026 outdoor lap lanes on June 15 with recorded daily attendance already topping 4,800 at the two largest facilities.
July marks peak demand as residents seek water-based exercise before the short northern summer ends. The municipal sports department extended operating hours at all outdoor sites through August 31 to meet that demand.
Smedsuddsbadet on Kungsholmen offers four 50-metre lanes reserved for continuous swimming between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. weekdays. Vanadisbadet near Vanadislunden provides two heated 25-metre lanes plus a separate training area that stays open until 8 p.m. on summer evenings. Both sites sit within 15 minutes of central tram stops and accept the same monthly pass sold through Stockholm Stad.
Swimmers who prefer open water head to the rock shelves at Insjöbadet in Nacka, where marked 200-metre routes run parallel to the shore. The route was buoyed on June 20 this year after local divers cleared debris from the bottom. Entry remains free, though the site has no changing rooms or lifeguards after 6 p.m.
Stockholm Stad reported 187,000 total visits to its outdoor swimming facilities during July 2025. A single adult day pass at the paid pools costs 65 kronor; a 30-day pass runs 390 kronor. Both Smedsuddsbadet and Vanadisbadet post real-time lane availability on the city app.
Check water temperature and lane schedules on the Stockholm Stad website before heading out, and arrive early on weekdays to secure a lane at either paid pool.
